New frontiers in host-guest chemistry: The gas phase
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aspects of host-guest complexation are examined in the solvent-free environment of a mass spectrometer. A kinetic dissociation method is used to determine orders of relative ammonium and alkali metal cation binding affinities of an array of model hosts, such as crown ethers and their acyclic analogs. Sizeselective effects on binding are observed from these gas-phase experiments. The binding properties of complexes bound by multiple hydrogen-binding interactions are examined by collisionally activated dissociation techniques.

Probing the stability of multicomponent self-assembled architectures based on cucurbit[8]uril in the gas phase.
Aqueous supramolecular chemistry and highly controlled self-assembly of multi-component architectures are novel tools for investigating and answering questions with different biological implications. Among other self-assembly motifs the barrel-shaped host molecule cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) is of particular interest due to its capability of incorporating two guest molecules simultaneously in its h...
متن کاملExperimental Measurement of Methane and Ethane Mole Fractions during Gas Hydrate Formation
The super-saturation condition has to be provided to form gas hydrates. Consequently, the prediction of the guest molecule fraction in the aqueous phase is crucial in the study of the gas hydrate kinetics. In the present work, several experiments were carried out in a semi-batch reactor in order to determine the mole fraction of methane and ethane during gas hydrates formation (growth stage...
متن کاملHost–Guest Chemistry in the Mass Spectrometer
The study of host–guest chemistry in the gas phase has been pursued systematically only in the last 5 years, after sporadic interest in the 1980s, despite extensive investigation of this chemistry in the condensed phase and the success encountered in several Ðelds of application. Most gas-phase studies have been performed under the controlled conditions that can be achieved inside a mass spectr...
متن کاملStructural diversity in the host–guest complexes of the antifolate pemetrexed with native cyclodextrins: gas phase, solution and solid state studies
The complexation of the antifolate pemetrexed (PTX) with native cyclodextrins was studied. This process, along with the findings gathered for the structurally related folic acid was treated as a model for exploiting host-guest interactions of this class of guest molecules in the gas phase, in solution and in the solid state. Mass spectrometry was employed for the investigation of the architectu...
متن کاملC-C stretching Raman spectra and stabilities of hydrocarbon molecules in natural gas hydrates: a quantum chemical study.
The presence of specific hydrocarbon gas molecules in various types of water cavities in natural gas hydrates (NGHs) are governed by the relative stabilities of these encapsulated guest molecule-water cavity combinations. Using molecular quantum chemical dispersion-corrected hybrid density functional computations, the interaction (ΔE(host--guest)) and cohesive energies (ΔE(coh)), enthalpies, an...
